Kampong Phluk

Distance from Siem Reap: ~30 km (45 mins)

Highlights & Vibe: Famous for towering stilted wooden houses (up to 10 meters high) and peaceful small-boat rides through flooded mangrove forests during the high-water season.

Kampong Khleang

Distance from Siem Reap: ~55 km (1.5 hours)

Highlights & Vibe: The largest community on the lake with thousands of residents. Offers a genuine, non-commercialized look into local fishing life with far fewer tourists.

Chong Kneas

Distance from Siem Reap: ~15 km (25 mins)

Highlights & Vibe: The closest village to town featuring mobile floating structures (schools, churches, stores). Best suited for quick visits, though it is more commercialized.

Seasonal Expectations: Wet vs. Dry Season

• High Water Season (August – January): The water rises dramatically, submerging tree trunks and reaching the bases of the stilted homes. Boats float right through village streets, creating a lush, picturesque environment.
• Low Water Season (February – July): The lake recedes, revealing the towering wooden stilts supporting the houses above dry land. While less green, it highlights the impressive engineering of these traditional homes.
